Hive and queen records: a card for every hive, order in every apiary

BeePulse keeps the records of your apiaries, hives and queens for you: breed, colour, year, frame count, hive type and the full history of each hive, from its first inspection. You see them on the phone and the computer, move hives between apiaries without losing anything, and you start free with up to 3 apiaries and 10 hives.

Free forever · No card · Web, iPhone and Android

How many hives do you have, and what do you know about each?

With five hives you remember everything. With twenty, in three apiaries, you no longer do: which colony has last year’s queen, which one was treated, which hive you moved and when. The information sits in notebooks, in photos and in your head, and when you need it, you cannot find it.

Records in BeePulse start from a card for every hive, grouped by apiary. Everything you note, at inspections, treatments or notes, is tied to its card.

Apiaries: a place, an address, the weather

An apiary is the place where you keep hives, and a hive always belongs to one apiary. When you sign up, BeePulse creates your first apiary and first hive; you rename them. You give the apiary an address (the village and county, then “Find on the map”) and the app shows the weather of that place.

  • A name and an address for every apiary
  • The place on the map
  • A 7-day forecast, with the good inspection days marked: at least 15 °C, wind under 30 km/h, no rain
  • More apiaries added with “Add apiary”

The hive card

Every hive has its own card, with what matters for your work. On the phone you see, in one place, the last inspection with its score, the stores, the colony and the queen, plus the buttons to start an inspection, take a photo, write a note or note what the hive needs.

  • A name and an optional identifier (for example H-001)
  • The hive type: Langstroth, Dadant, Warré, Top Bar or Other
  • The frame count
  • A colour tag, to recognise categories at a glance (for example yellow for new colonies, red for hives needing attention)
  • The apiary it belongs to
  • A QR code you stick on the hive

The queen: breed, colour, year

For every hive you note the queen’s details: breed, colour, year, whether she is marked and whether she is clipped. On the hive page you then see, at a glance, the queen’s year, colour and the date she was introduced.

When you decide which queen to replace or which colony to breed from, the answer is on the card, not in a notebook.

The whole history of a hive, in one place

A hive’s card gathers what happened to it, in order, so you do not have to search notebooks. The “Evolution” section shows the apiary’s weather and the hive’s events on the same time axis (24 hours, 7 days or 30 days), so you can read a change against what you did. It works just as well without any equipment.

  • Inspections, with the health score and notes of each visit
  • Treatments, with the waiting period
  • Harvests (Pro)
  • Notes and voice recordings (Pro)
  • Photos, up to 20 per hive (Pro)
  • The materials the hive needs

Move a hive without losing its history

When you move hives to another place, you open the hive and choose “Move to Apiary”: the whole inspection history stays with the hive. If a colony is lost or sold, you delete the hive; that removes it for good, with its inspections, notes, voice recordings, treatments and photos, and frees a place under your plan’s limit.

On phone and computer, with clear limits

Apiaries and hives are the same on the phone and on the web, in the same account. Inspections work without signal too; creating or editing apiaries and hives needs a connection, and the app tells you if you do not have one.

The free Start plan allows up to 3 apiaries and 10 hives. Pro goes up to 20 apiaries and 50 hives and costs €60/year + VAT. If you need more, write to us in Messages and we will look at it together.

Frequently asked questions

How many hives can I keep for free?

The Start plan allows up to 3 apiaries and 10 hives, for good. Pro allows up to 20 apiaries and 50 hives. If you need more, write to us in Messages.

Which hive types can I record?

Langstroth, Dadant, Warré, Top Bar or Other, plus the frame count and a colour tag for quick recognition.

Can I keep records of my queens?

Yes. For every hive you note the breed, colour, year, whether she is marked and whether she is clipped. On the hive page you see the year, colour and introduction date.

What happens to the history if I move a hive to another apiary?

It stays with the hive. You open the hive, choose “Move to Apiary” and the destination; the inspections and notes follow it.

Can I delete a hive?

Yes, but deleting is final: its inspections, notes, voice recordings, treatments and photos are deleted too. Export what you need first.

Can I add apiaries and hives without internet?

No. Inspections can be recorded offline, but creating or editing apiaries and hives needs a connection; the app tells you if you do not have one.
