What a smart scale measures
Each scale measures the weight of the hive and reports it with the environmental conditions at the apiary, so you can follow nectar flows, swarming and honey production over days, weeks and seasons.
- Hive weight, up to 100 kg in normal use
- Two temperature sensors: at the device and on an external sensor cable
- Atmospheric pressure at the installation site
- Battery voltage, so you know before it runs low
WiFi or GSM/SMS
Choose the scale that suits your apiary. WiFi models send data over a network where there is one; the GSM model sends measurements by SMS, so it works where there is no WiFi. Solar charging is available for continuous operation.
The GSM scale uses a MICRO SIM card with the PIN disabled, and a 12 V/7 Ah battery gives more than a month of autonomy with two to five SMS a day.
What it adds to the platform
A connected scale unlocks the live dashboard, Daily Pulse, weight and temperature charts with history, and alerts. By default a sudden drop of more than 5 kg in 24 hours flags possible swarming, a gradual loss of more than 2 kg over 7 days points to theft or disease, and a gain of more than 3 kg in 24 hours indicates a strong nectar flow. You can set your own thresholds.

Set up in a few steps
Install the SIM card if your model needs one, connect the 12 V power supply with the correct polarity, place the scale on a level, stable surface, calibrate it with a known weight and register the device in your account. The help centre walks through each step with the exact menu prompts.

Can I add a smart scale later, and how does it connect?
- Yes. Scales are optional and can be added at any time. Once a scale is linked to a hive in your account, its weight, temperature and humidity readings appear in the same app, next to your inspections and weather.
Which features need a smart scale?
- The live dashboard, Daily Pulse, sensor chart history and weight alerts need a connected scale. Everything else — hive records, inspections, weather, follow-ups and the mobile app — works without hardware. These rows are marked “With scale” in the comparison table.
Do I need hardware to use BeePulse?
- No. BeePulse is a complete beekeeping platform on its own — apiaries, hives, inspections, weather, follow-ups and the mobile app all work without any device. Smart scales are an optional upgrade that adds live weight and temperature data to the same account.
How long is my data kept?
- The Start plan keeps data for 1 year and Pro for 5 years. Historical charts cover the last 30 days on Start and are unlimited on Pro.
